Skylar Rose, Sole Proprietor
Hi! I’m Skylar, the owner of Wild Woven Gardens.
I grew up in the Northeast and have always shared a deep sense of love, gratitude and care for all the wild ones we share this earth with. After several joyful years of experience working as a private gardener and farm hand, I took the leap and started designing and gardening for my own clients. Ecological Gardening is how I choose to share my love for the planet, and is my personal answer to the lifelong question of “How can I help?”
I adore this work and all of the people, plants and animals I get to meet and serve while doing what I love most - getting my hands dirty!
Marco Frascone, Carpenter
Marco is my partner in both life and business! As a carpenter, he brings invaluable skill and knowledge to Wild Woven Gardens. Marco designs and builds any raised beds, fencing or other garden-related
structures that clients seek.
He has many years of experience in woodworking and carpentry and has a great love for his craft. He is hardworking, honest, humble, and never afraid to try something new!
Marco is a subcontractor who takes on his own clients as well. If further carpentry projects are of interest to you, he can be reached via email at marcof056@gmail.com.
Deborah Perkins, Mentor & Collaborator
Deborah Perkins is a Wildlife Ecologist and sole proprietor of First Light Wildlife Habitats.
We began working together when I asked her to be my mentor for the Native Gardens of Blue Hill Mentorship Program, and to my luck, our relationship as mentor and mentee has continued on past the end of the program!
Deb is known as The Personal Ecologist and has multiple degrees in environmental/wildlife studies and 30+ years of experience in field work, environmental advocacy and science. She grew up in Maine and knows our flora and fauna like the back of her hand. Deb specializes in habitat design and consultations as well as her wonderful walks, talks and workshops throughout the State. She is a wealth of knowledge and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have her as my mentor (and project partner, when clients request our duo!)
Deb can be contacted here, and you can find her events here!
Native Plant Gardens
After an initial consultation and site visit, I can design, build, install and maintain your kitchen garden. We can work together depending on your preferred level of involvement- I'm happy to do all the hard work myself, work side by side with you, or somewhere in between!
By choosing to have an organic Kitchen Garden on your property, you can decrease your personal carbon footprint. No more plastic-wrapped produce, shipped from faraway lands, grown with pesticides and unethical practices on monoculture farms. You can simply walk out the door and harvest fresh, organically grown produce from your own backyard.
Organic, Homegrown Food
Making space for Native plants on our properties is more important now than ever. Research has shown that we are losing our planet's biodiversity at increasingly alarming rates. The plants, animals, butterflies and native insects that make our planet (and our hearts) whole, are running out of food and shelter. According to expert Doug W. Tallamy, "We have turned 54% of the lower 48 states into cities and suburbs, and 41% more into various forms of agriculture. That's right- we humans have taken 95% of nature and made it unnatural."
Native plants, insects and wildlife have co-evolved alongside each other over thousands of years, forming complex, symbiotic relationships and adaptations. This means they need each other for food, shelter and life-cycle support. Our "specialist" species simply haven't evolved to utilize non-native plants for support.
The good news? By choosing to have a native garden on your property, you can bring nature back to its rightful home, promote those beautiful webs of relationships, and protect generations of wildlife. Want butterflies? Birds? Bees? Plant Native!
Native plants also help to sequester carbon from the atmosphere, clean water, reduce erosion, and can provide food for humans, too! Hazelnuts, Blueberries, Cranberries, Elderberries and of course Sugar Maples are some examples of yummy edibles here in Maine. Plus, they are just as beautiful as your standard ornamental perennials, if not more beautiful due to their incredible, life supporting ecosystem functions.
So...How Can Your Garden Help?
Wild Woven Gardens uses techniques such as Integrated Pest Management and No-Till methods of gardening to support the health of both you and your soil. No harmful chemicals, artificial fertilizers or pesticides will be used in your garden.
